Amery Hill School in Alton has bid a fond farewell to Stephen Mann, who has left the school after five years as headteacher.

As part of the farewell activities, the school hosted its first – and last – ‘Action Mann Day’ which was a fun-packed day of fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer and Soccer Aid.

This saw Mr Mann embrace a number of challenges throughout the day; Sponge the Senior Leadership Team was possibly the highlight for many pupils! 

Reflecting on his years at Amery Hill School, Mr Mann said: “During my time as headteacher I have witnessed the profound dedication and commitment demonstrated by our talented teachers and support staff.

“Together, we have formed a strong community that cherishes education, values diversity and fosters a love of lifelong learning. I am proud to have worked alongside such an exceptional team, whose tireless efforts have made our school the very best it can be.”  

He continued: “While we celebrate all of our achievements, it is also important to remember that the journey continues, and as we move forward let us carry the lessons learned and the spirit of determination. Let us remain open to new ideas, embrace change and continue to foster a nurturing environment that empowers every student to reach their full potential.”

In September the school will welcome Rob Jeckells as its new headteacher. Mr Jeckells is a highly experienced deputy headteacher from Kings’ School in Winchester who shares the school’s outlook and values.

Speaking recently at the transition evening for pupils joining Amery Hill in September, Mr Jeckells said: “I am motivated by a sense of the absolute importance of what schools do; by a conviction that education should be inspiring and enjoyable; by a belief that schools should be inclusive communities in which everyone is equally valued; and by a determination that each one of us will become the very best person that we can be. 

“The opportunity to lead Amery Hill School and serve the whole community is hugely exciting for me and I’m looking forward to leading the school into the next phase of its history.”

Lorna Vickery, chair of trustees, said: “We are very sad to see Mr Mann depart and congratulate him on his appointment as chief executive of Wildern Academy Trust. He has worked tirelessly with the senior leadership team, staff and trustees over the last five years to strengthen the academic excellence of our school and maintain our caring ethos. 

“We look forward to a bright future with Mr Jeckells as headteacher and look forward to welcoming him and our new students and families in September.”
