VICTORY was snatched in the final days of Parliament yesterday (Oct 29) when Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed Haslemere Hospital minor injuries unit can stay open.
Mr Hancock was responding to a direct question from South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt, who is leading the hard-fought campaign to save the unit, in one the last question times before Parliament is dissolved for the General Election on December 12.
Welcoming the “terrific news”, Mr Hunt said: “As a former Health Secretary, I felt very strongly about fighting as hard as I could because the future for the NHS is more care in the community - so enormous thanks to all those who supported me and helped to raise the profile of this campaign – this is a fantastic result.”
