Hive Helpers, a Farnham-based community interest company ‘helping people helping pollinators’, is off to a busy start this April, with its clubs, workshops and courses back by popular demand.

Pollen-8 is an eight-week course run on Thursday evenings at 7pm at Farnham Community Farm, starting April 18.

The course helps people understand beekeeping and support wild pollinators – it is suitable for new and non-beekeepers, and is a great way to try your hand at beekeeping.

The full course costs £60, just £7.50 per workshop. There will also be an intensive course held over the weekend of June 1 to 2.

MINIBEASTS is a nature activity club for six to ten-year-olds and their families, costing £3 per child. The club runs on the second Sunday afternoon of the month, with the first meeting on April 14 creating spring egg art and beekeeping. Future meetings include nature rambles, river dipping and more beekeeping!

Hive Helpers ‘World of Bees’ workshops start in May, exploring the fascinating lives of bumblebees, solitary bees and honey bees. Each workshop lasts three hours and happens every month on a Saturday during the beekeeping season.

The project’s longest-running service, HH Club, is an outdoor youth group for 11 to 16-year-olds and runs weekly, including in school holidays, every Wednesday evening, 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Members participate in beekeeping, nature conservation, crafting and a good healthy dose of fun and games!
