STUDENTS from The Abbey School have had the trip of a lifetime to Florida postponed in light of Hurricane Irma.
Eight special needs children, accompanied by charity volunteers and school staff were due to jet off from Gatwick Airport last weekend.
The 10-day trip was supposed to include visits to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Sea World, Discovery Cove and Walt Disney World.
It was organised by the Children With Special Needs Foundation which supports children in special schools by organising trips and holidays and providing equipment.
The decision was taken on the Friday to postpone the trip until the end of October, with an extra day added to the trip.
A school spokesperson said: “The children were disappointed after they had waited so long for the trip. But after showing them pictures of the devastation on the internet, they completely understood.
“They are now really excited to be in Florida over Hallowe’en and for the extra day. It was all re-organised by the Children With Special Needs Foundation.”
Jamie Raven, of Britain’s Got Talent fame, visited The Abbey to officially present the tickets for the trip last week.
For the students who did not get tickets, he performed a few of his magical illusions for the whole school, holding them all spellbound.
