THE concert given by the Farnham Brass Band and Voices Together Community Choir held at St Andrew’s Church in support of the Friends of St Andrew’s was greatly appreciated by a large audience.
The Farnham Brass Band was celebrating its 40th year of providing musical entertainment to Farnham and the wider community. Their programme began with ‘Cobbett’ Prelude and March by David Lancaster, commissioned by conductor David Wright and financed by The Graham family in memory of band founders Les and Gwen Graham.
The evenings performance was shared equally between the Band and Voices Together Community Choir.
Led by Valerie Hoppe the choir gave a popular programme including the Grand Chorus from Aida, Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco and Habanera from Carmen with soloist Linda Sprague. Their performance ended with extracts from Les Miserables.
The band ended the evening with a rousing rendition of Finlandia by Jean Sibelius with the choir singing the Finlandia Hymn Be Still, My Soul.
A wonderful finale and testament to the dedication of the members of the Farnham Brass Band and Voices Together Community Choir to bring music to the town.
