PUBLIC house, The Jolly Sailor in West Street, has won the Surrey and Hants Borders CAMRA Pub of the Year 2017 award for the second time in two years.

Not only have tenants Sarahjane Commarford and Ian Morgan been presented with this award twice, but they are the only landlords in Farnham to have won it at all.

CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) is a voluntary organisation with more than 187,000 members worldwide. CAMRA volunteers across the UK, judge the pubs in their area to find their branch’s Pub of the Year- looking at decor, value for money, customer service, and the quality of the real ale.

Sarahjane said: “We won the same award in 2015 and we are just starting our fifth year, so to actually achieve that in four years is great, we are obviously very excited about it and it’s a first for Farnham as well.

“The venue has been a pub for many, many years but we’ve certainly built up the trade since we’ve been here a huge amount and we’ve changed it from what was kind of a working man’s pub to as community pub and ale house, so we’ve got a good mixture going on.

“You would never really see many lunch time women coming in or children and families coming in, in the past, and certainly in terms of the ale we’ve gone from three pumps, where they only used to have one or two on, up to eight continuously.

“We have eight pumps on at any one time, and we have six ales that change all the time and then two Greene King ales.”
