AN eight-year-old pupil at Rowledge Primary School has followed in her older brother’s footsteps by winning double gold at the British and Irish national karate championships.
Molly Fairhead claimed the title of champion in the under-nines category in her individual kata event and also scooped gold in her team event at the 25th Wado International Karate-Do Federatio (WIKF) National Championships in London.
Her brother, double gold European champion Jacob Fairhead, also retained his title of British and Irish national champion for the fifth consecutive year by successfully winning four gold medals in his individual (under 12s) and team events.
Molly and Jacob live in Farnham and both will now be training hard to qualify to retain their place in the England squad to represent their country at the European Championships to be held in Holland in September.
Both brother and sister started karate at the Su-Ha-Ri Farnham club on their fifth birthdays and have trained there regularly every week under the guidance of world chief instructor sensei and 8th Dan, Jon Wicks.
