CHILDREN at St Andrew’s Infant School were inspired by the visit of a local artist and a trip to The Sculpture Park in Churt last week.
To kick start the school’s art week, pupils explored The Sculpture Park in groups with the task of finding as many different animal sculptures and materials used as they could.
With great excitement they spent the morning discovering little nooks and crannies, crossing streams and bridges, and spotting plethora of diverse pieces exhibited by artists from near and far.
Inspired by their discoveries, back at school the children experimented with different materials including junk modelling, paper sculptures, balloon papier mache, decorating bunting and modelling with clay.
They also collected natural materials from their gardens to create sculptures inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy, and had a go at soapstone carving with sculptor Ruth Wheeler.
The children’s work will be displayed in the school hall in an exhibition for parents to admire.
