Seven thousand young Muslims attended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) UK’s National Ijtema gathering in Kingsley last weekend.

The primary aim was to deepen understanding of Islam’s peaceful teachings among young Muslims. The theme of Salat – prayer – emphasised finding delight in worshipping one God through five daily prayers.  

AMYA UK believes that through collective learning, competitions, encouragement, charity work and environmental initiatives, Muslim youths will be better guided and able to contribute positively to society.  

It follows the guidance of its founder, His Holiness Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad, who said: “A nation cannot be reformed without the reformation of its youth.” 

Over three days there were academic and sporting contests, talks and workshops. The highlight was the concluding address by His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community worldwide, who reminded Muslim youths to practise and spread the peaceful teachings of Islam.
