A ladies’ tennis tournament at Elstead Village Tennis Club on May 19 raised £1,186 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

It was organised by Sam Williamson and Darrell Merrick-Wilson, who are both Aldershot and District Lawn Tennis Association committee members.

The money will go to Phyllis Tuckwell’s Your New Hospice Appeal, a 36-hour match funding campaign it ran on May 19 and 20.

Ten pairs of ladies from local tennis clubs played matches over the course of a fabulously sunny afternoon.

During the event they enjoyed home-made refreshments and had a chance to buy raffle tickets.

Prizes donated included free lessons from local tennis coaches, a week’s family membership of the David Lloyd gym, and beauty treatments.

The winners of the tournament were Jackie West and Claire Archibald of Brightwell, and Alex Bliss and Val Williams of Ash.

It was enjoyed by everyone and it could become an annual event.
