WOODLARKS campsite for the disabled and those in need welcomed a visit by the Waverley mayor Tony Gordon-Smith last week.

The Farnham charity was established in 1930 and, as well as its permanent residential facilities, welcomes groups from across the UK for short stays at its specialist campsite.

As well as tents specially designed to cater for wheelchairs, the campsite has a covered runway for access and specialised washing facilities, and provides blankets and other camping equipment to visitors.

Following his visit, Mr Gordon-Smith said: "I was very impressed and Woodlarks really is an amazing organisation. The campsite is in a lovely park and has some superb facilities for the disabled.

"They are well-known locally and attract groups from across the UK, and I will certainly try my best to help them raise their profile further. This is a facility that should be shouting from the rooftops."

Woodlarks is currently raising funds to upgrade its buildings, many of which date back to the Second World War. It is also in constant need of funds to help run the site to as high a standard as possible.
