WHITEHILL & Bordon district councillor Adam Carew has warned a developer to take care of the environment if it builds a housing estate on the site of the former Mill Chase Academy and Leisure Centre.

Miller Homes wants to put 146 homes on the land in Mill Chase Road, Bordon, providing a range of properties from four-bedroom houses to one-bedroom flats. Some 35 per cent – a minimum of 51 – would be affordable rent or shared ownership homes.

People have until June 11 to view the company’s virtual exhibition at www.landatmillchase.co.uk, and give feedback in an online consultation, before it submits a planning application to East Hampshire District Council.

Its proposal is running in tandem with an application by Hampshire County Council for an area of Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANG) at Standford Grange Farm.

Cllr Carew said: “There are a number of issues the developer will need to address as part of this application, not least the impact of additional traffic.

“The applicant will also need to show how they propose to address the habitat regulations, given the impact of residents and their dogs on the rare and internationally-protected heathland that surrounds our town.

“None of the homes can be legally occupied until the SANG is created and ready for use.”
