A Frensham school for boys with learning difficulties marked a special milestone before breaking up for end of school year.
More House School celebrated its 85th anniversary by coming together to reflect on the progress, accomplishments and social and academic successes of its pupils.
In attendance was Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington. Who shared a bit about his educational journey, having been diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He explained that managing these challenges involved finding unique ways to learn and stay focused and to always keep pushing.
Kai also shared how sport and dance provided not only an outlet for his creativity, but a driving force to achieve his ambitions and dreams. He never let his learning challenges slow him down or stop him, he used them to drive him forward.
The Bloomfield Award marked a significant tradition for the school. The tribute was started by a More House old boy in memory of the late Nic Bloomfield, a beloved music teacher at the school. Every pupil was given the chance to vote for a member of staff who had gone the extra mile to support them pastorally throughout the year.
This year’s award was presented to Miss Ellen Lazell for her unwavering support of the boys academically as a teacher of history. But also as a mentor, form tutor and assistant head of the Year 9 cohort.
To end the service, Mr Hetherington announced the new school officers, head boy, house captains and heads of the school council.
