Pinpointing the location of a lost railway landmark wasn’t a bridge too far for readers.

In last week’s Peeps into the Past we asked for help in identifying the location of a steam train crossing a bridge on the long-closed Bordon Light Railway.

And you didn’t disappoint, with many confirming the bridge was once a feature of Kingsley and crossed the B3004 close to the quarry.

It also brought up quite a few memories, with readers from afar as Kent, South Wales and even New Zealand sharing maps and rose-tinted recollections.

“Although I now live in Swansea I lived in the Bordon area until the late 1980s and I’m 60 now,” wrote Kevin Cozens.

“I can just about remember the bridge from where we used to go and see my great-grandparents in Alton or go to Alton market.

“I have always been fascinated with the old railway. I spent many days playing on it as a young child not long after it had been closed down.”

“Having spent my early years in Kingsley I can remember this bridge well,” wrote Kim Bishop, adding: “It was set between Doggrels Farm, next to the Land Rover 4X4 business, and Bakers Farm Corner.”

“I used to live in Greatham and remember this bridge well – the bridge you are enquiring about used to cross the B3004 Kingsley road and was demolished after closure of the line,” wrote Clive Holliday of Heathfield, East Sussex.

Jordan Toovey was also happy to solve the mystery several time zones away in Auckland!

“I’m sure somebody has already emailed you and sussed it out,” wrote the former Lindford resident.

“But even though I live in New Zealand I still have a great fascination in the history of my old hometown and surrounding areas.”

Thank you to everyone who got in touch.
