BELLS Piece, a Leonard Cheshire home, which provides 24-hour support to adults with learning difficulties based in Farnham, has been nominated charity of the year by golf society The Plume of Feathers for a second consecutive year.
This year the society raised an impressive £1,029, which was presented to Bells Piece in the spring.
After much deliberation it was felt that the funds should go towards building a pizza oven in the grounds at Bells Piece.
Davina Scott, team leader of the Activities and Life Skills Centre, said: “This would benefit all parts of the service as our training kitchen would use it to expand the experience of the clients in that group, and there is a proposition to cook our Christmas turkey in it.
“Others would be using it in the evenings and weekends, as well as at fundraising events and fetes.”
Bells Piece was also supported by local builder Derek George who kindly donated his time to building the base and platform of the oven, and by Argyle Electrical Services which supplied the men and machines free of charge to lift the oven into position.
To celebrate the collaboration and the enormous effort entailed in bringing the project to completion Bells Piece held a pizza oven launch party on August 19, welcoming everyone involved.
“The training kitchen made and supplied plenty of delicious pizzas made with as many ingredients sourced from our gardens as possible,” said Davina.
“Our visitors, clients and volunteers were really impressed with the quality of the pizzas and most said it was the best they had ever eaten.”
