FARNHAM’S very own “boutique adults-only” hotel, the romantically named Hotel de Vie on the corner of Firgrove Hill and Arthur Road, could soon be no more after a planning application was submitted for its conversion to a block of flats.
The proposal by applicant Roger Williams is for a ‘change of use’ of the raunchy hotel, which openly advertises “love swings” and “boudoir photo shoots” on its website, from Class C1 (hotel/guest house) to C4 (house in multiple occupation) for “not more than 18 people”.
Twelve bedrooms would be spread across three floors; with two double-bedrooms and a communal lounge plus a self-contained studio suite on the ground floor, three double and four single en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, plus a pair of single-bedrooms in a self-contained flat on the second floor.
The plans would also retain the hotel’s existing 10 car parking spaces.
Hotel de Vie, which according to the application is owned by the JIT Pension Scheme and employs two people part-time, has undergone a number of management changes in recent years, most notably in 2013 when its manager Jason Parlour set sail on the Clipper Round the World amateur yacht race.
Waverley has set itself a target date of May 16 to determine the application. To view and comment on the plans online, visit the website www.waverley.gov.uk/planning and search for reference WA/2018/0556.
Other significant applications submitted this week include plans for six homes in Upper South View (WA/2018/0551) and nine homes in The Street, Wrecclesham (WA/2018/0578).
