A TRAFFIC order for a 30mph speed limit along Longmoor Road, replacing the current 40mph zone, is being proposed by Hampshire County Council.
The proposal covers the stretch of Longmoor Road westward toward the A3 from its junction with The Avenue to Griggs Green, where speed limits of 60mph are currently in place going up to the A3.
There have been a number of serious crashes on that stretch of road and at least one fatality in the last five years.
East Hampshire district councillor Bill Mouland, who is campaigning for lower speed limits for the whole of Longmoor Road, said: “I have asked for a speed limit of at least 40mph to be introduced along the Longmoor Road to and from the junction with the A3, at Griggs Green.
“I think it would act as a deterrent and slow traffic down as it approaches the new Lowsley Farm roundabout, and stop motorists from speeding up as they leave the roundabout in the opposite direction.
“The amount of traffic on this road has increased considerably because of the great success of Old Thorns Manor Hotel and The Deer’s Hut, which are accessed from it, and I think everyone would appreciate it if speeds were more controlled.”
Mr Mouland also believes speed restriction signs would be some sort of deterrent and urges residents to take part in the county council’s public consultation exercise which closes on December 9.
The proposal will be discussed tonight by Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council at the Peak Centre, on Midhurst Road, at 7.30pm.
