CHILDREN from St Andrew’s Infant School fell in line behind The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment last week as part of the ‘Time to Remember’ procession.
The procession from Farnham Castle to the bottom of Castle Street was held to commemorate 100 years since the world’s first ever two-minute silence which took place in Farnham in 1916.
As the only school in Farnham town centre to have been open in 1916 (founded 1860), St Andrew’s parents and pupils dressed up in Edwardian finery and were proud to be a part of this historical moment.
It was all smiles and camaraderie as members of staff and the headteacher cheered them as they passed.
And the sun-soaked ceremony was topped off as a gentle breeze picked up, filling Castle Street with a poignant flurry of soldier-shaped confetti which the children chased and kept as mementoes before enjoying the traditional May Day festivities at Gostrey Meadow.
