ALTON’S fourth annual primary schools’ swimming gala proved another great success.

Held on Tuesday at Alton Sports Centre, there were 11 schools competing in two groups to battle it out for the coveted trophies.

Retaining the overall title they won last year were the pupils from Rowledge Primary, with Medstead second and Bentworth in third place.

Rowledge also won the larger school category, ahead of Medstead, with Bentley in third place.

The team from Bentworth Primary won the small school title, pipping St Lawrence, Alton, to the post by just four points, with Andrew’s Endowed, Holybourne, coming third.

Wootey Junior School swimmers received the participation award for showing “great teamwork and spirit” throughout the afternoon.

The competition was run by Alton primary cluster PE teacher Leo Maliphant, with support from Eggar’s secondary school, who provided swimming caps for all the children and helpers on the day.

The competition featured children from The Butts, Bentley, Medstead, Rowledge and Wootey Juniors in the larger school category, and those from Andrew’s Endowed Holybourne, Bentworth, Binsted, Chawton, Selborne and St Lawrence, Alton, in the small school category.
