A fundraising race night and auction for football-loving tree surgeon Regan Hitch will be held at Alton Football Club on January 25 at 7pm.

Regan, known as Reggie to his friends, snapped three ligaments in his right knee in a freak collision during training with the club’s Sunday league side Alton Phoenix in November.

His team-mate Oliver Dickson set up a GoFundMe page, Help Reggie Rebuild His Life, which has so far raised £4,985.

Oliver said: “Reggie suffered a life-changing accident and faces months of recovery, unable to work.

“While surgeries are covered by the NHS, rehabilitation is crucial to help him regain his peak mobility. Funds raised will also help with living costs and ongoing medical expenses.”

The event at Alton FC is the latest push towards the campaign’s £12,500 target.

Oliver added: “We’re hosting this night to raise much-needed funds to support Reggie’s continuing rehabilitation, and we’re so excited about the plans coming together.

“There have been some incredible lots already donated, such as a European weekend break for two, spa treatments, a golf day, two ringside seats for a boxing event at The O2 Indigo on March 22, and a gliding experience.

“It’s a cause very close to our hearts, and we’d love the community’s support to make it as successful as possible.”

Thanking the Alton public for its “incredible support”, Oliver said: “We’ve been so touched by the generosity and kindness we’ve received through your donations and words of encouragement.

Your support so far has been nothing short of inspiring, and this event is another way we’re hoping to continue making a difference in Reggie’s life. Thank you for standing by him and helping us on this journey.”
