Exciting plans to revamp a play area in central Farnham will soon be revealed to the public.

Farnham Town Council has identified firms to oversee the overhaul of the playground and toilets at Gostrey Meadow.

Experienced and qualified contractors were given until December 18 to submit proposals, with tenders being reviewed and shortlisted.

The shortlisted proposals for a more “accessible and inclusive” playground will be revealed imminently with residents being asked to pick their favourite.

The designs have impressed town councillors with one comparing a proposal to an “adventure park” during a recent FTC meeting.

“We carried out our first consultation with parents, carers and young people during the summer,” said a spokesperson for FTC before Christmas.

“We want to create a playground that is accessible, more inclusive and where children aged 11 and under can play safely.

“We learned during the consultation that 85 per cent of respondents prefer wooden play equipment, and 37 per cent of respondents said it is important the playground can be accessed by both non-disabled children and those with health conditions or impairments.”

A multi-play tower and swings were high on the wishlist for previous respondents while water play, a roundabout, sensory play, musical boards, seesaw, spinning dish and spring rocker were also popular choices.

The project should be completed by early 2026 with work set to begin later this year with planning permission for the toilets taking place in parallel.

The existing playground is being monitored on a weekly basis with FTC staff continuing to make remedial repairs as there has been issues with vandalism in recent months, with a bench being thrown into the Wey.

The public have been thanked for their patience, while anyone who would like the town council to keep them updated with the project should email [email protected]
