A Farnham supermarket looks set to lose some of its in-store services as part of a wave of job cuts.

Sainsbury’s is slashing 3,000 jobs nationally blaming a “challenging cost environment” caused by the rise in employers’ National Insurance contributions.

The retailer will make the cuts by closing its remaining cafes along with its hot food, pizza and patisserie counters.

The Herald has approached Sainsbury’s for a comment about how the Water Lane store will be impacted by the cuts but has not received a response.

A statement issued by the company said the decision was made to “simplify the business” nothing that most shoppers “do not regularly use the cafes”, with the nearest to Farnham being in the Godalming store.
