A new community football group supporting children and young people in Hale opened on April 8.

A small group of dedicated parents came together after realising there was a need for more local sporting opportunities.

Months of hard work, plus support and donations from Farnham Lions, Surrey county councillor Catherine Powell, Farnham Round Table, Farnham Town Youth Football Club and Hale Community Centre, created Sandy Stars.

Sandy Stars meets on Monday and Wednesday from 5pm to 6.30pm and aims to support children and young people living on or around the Sandy Hill estate.

The volunteers running the group said: “We are so grateful for all the help and support we have been given. This group will give children and young people somewhere safe to come together, where they can socialise, meet new friends and enjoy the opportunity to play football.”
