A Farnham man has been jailed for two years as the fallout from a violent protest in Aldershot continues.

Clive Patfield was one of seven men charged with violent disorder by police investigating the riot outside the Potters International Hotel on July 31.

The 60-year-of The Chantrys was one of around 200 people who took part in the initially peaceful protest, held two days after the stabbing of children in Southport.

But a minority became aggressive and violent with angry protestors banging on doors and hurling objects at the hotel housing “scared” and “petrified” asylum seekers.

Others shouted racist abuse and acted in a threatening way towards those staying inside the hotel.

Patfield – who was part of the group that was banging on doors – was sentenced on Wednesday, September 4, at Winchester Crown Court after admitting to a count of violent disorder.

Kieron Marney, 25, of Fairview Road, Ash, was also jailed for two years and three months after pleading to the same charge. The court was shown video footage of him hurling a bike at hotel doors while the defendant was also seen throwing objects and pulling window blinds.

As recently reported, Perrie Fisher, 28, of Hillside Road in Farnham, was one of the seven men charged and was jailed for 29 months following an earlier hearing.

Assistant Chief Constable Tara McGovern said: "I hope the sentences that Patfield and Marney received highlight that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“It is a clear message that these actions have consequences.”
