A police investigation has been launched after a popular restaurant in Farnham town centre was targeted by vandals in a late-night incident.
Cordons were put in place around Luxe following an incident at the high-end restaurant on Lion & Lamb Yard around 11pm last night (Thursday, July 18).
Windows were smashed and parts of the interior were damaged by four men, although figures about the exact number involved have varied.
Police were still at the scene late this morning as they’ve been gathering evidence since the early hours.
Although a cordon remains in place on the affected section of Lion & Lamb Yard all surrounding businesses are accessible and open.
A walkway between Coffee Diem Pizzeria and Cote Brasserie is in place allowing access to both Upper and Lower Lion and Lamb Yard.
Farnham residents woke up to rumours on social media of between 30-20 attackers with machetes but the restaurant’s owner, Jan Began, has called the claims “nonsense” and insists only a few people were involved.
Jan hopes that when the cordon is removed he and the team can repair the damage and replace the windows as soon as possible so they can resume normal service.
If all goes to plan the owner hopes to open tonight, with Mr Hegan saying: “We look forward to welcoming our customers as soon as possible.”
A Surrey Police spokesman later said: “Officers were called to The Luxe in Lion and Lamb Yard, Farnham shortly after midnight this morning (Friday, 19 July) following reports of an altercation at the location.
“Three men were given medical attention at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service, and one was taken on to hospital for further treatment.
“Five people – three men in their 30s, a man in his 20s, and a 17-year-old boy – have been arrested on suspicion of assault, and remain in police custody at this time.”
