MORE than £12,000 will be winging its way to charity after Guy Fawkes got his comeuppance at bonfire and firework celebrations in and around Petersfield at the weekend.
In Petersfield, it was a record year for the Petersfield Round Table-led Saturday night of family fun, with £9,000 raised.
Organisers believe around 4,000 people attended the annual bonfire and fireworks fiesta at the Bell Hill recreation ground.
Four-year-old Toby Glithro, who attends Petersfield Infant School, had the honour of lighting the bonfire while Rueben and Isabelle Baker lit the blue touch paper to set off the massive fireworks display which lit up the night sky above Petersfield.
Andy Guest, of Petersfield Round Table, said: "It was a record year and everybody enjoyed themselves."
Twenty-four hours earlier, on Friday night, 700 people turned out for a combined Hallowe'en and bonfire night party in Buriton.
Happy Hula Monkeys dressed in luminous skeleton suits led a flaming torch procession to the recreation ground for a spectacular evening which raised £3,000 for Buriton organisations.
