A link-up between two of Farnham’s high-flyers could be a match made in heaven as an exciting new course has been pitched to football-mad youngsters.

Promotion-chasers Farnham Town FC and their Farnham College teammates could launch a Football Education Programme next September if there’s sufficient demand from Year 11 leavers.

Students will get twice weekly training, access to strength and conditioning sessions and chances to represent the college and FTFC in competitive matches.

But there’s an academic side to the course as students hopeful of joining a football club, university or landing a US scholarship can pursue A-Levels, BTEC and T-Levels.

The “exciting” programme is dependent is sufficient on interest from the community according to the college’s group director, Neil Shoulder, with would-be students being urged to show an interest through their feedback form or their information event on October 21.

He said: “This initiative would provide a unique opportunity for students to combine full-time study with professional-level football training, ensuring they would have the skills and qualifications to succeed both on and off the pitch.”

Paul Tanner, FTFC CEO, has called the partnership an “exciting new venture” and has welcomed the move.

He added: “We believe that this would drive the community together and enhance the educational offering within the local area.

“If there is an appetite for such a programme, we would be proud to play a significant part in its success”.

Farnham College will be holding an information evening next Monday, October 21, from 6pm.
