Waverley residents will be cheering on Toby Roberts as the “climbing prodigy” was brought up in Elstead and was pupil at King Edward’s School in nearby Witley.
He trained in his back garden during the pandemic with his father providing coaching.
Further afield, Oliver Wynne-Griffith from Guildford will be hoping to make waves in the rowing competitions having won Bronze at Tokyo 2020. He has switched from strokeside to bowside for the Paris games, and described his inclusion as a “huge, huge honour”.
He said: “It is a ‘pinch me’ moment when you get picked, but there is a job to do at the end of it.”
