Get ready to party, Farnham, as the carnival is about to begin!
The final countdown to the 2024 Farnham Carnival has begun with the annual event taking over the town centre this Saturday, June 29.
The highlight for many will be the grand parade – this year has a ‘Keep Farnham Active’ theme to coincide with the Paris Olympics – with multiple roads being closed for the procession and more than 40 entrants taking to the streets.
Judging will take place in the Upper Hart car park with sports clubs, marching band and entertainers joining the tour from 5.30pm to 7pm.
Thousands of people are expected to line the route so look out for notices or check out the carnival website for details of road closures.
The fayre in Gostrey Meadow will be open from 2pm to 9pm with highlights including live music, Wright’s drinks tent, children’s entertainment and Mrs Harrington’s funfair. Expect numerous commercial and charity stalls and plenty of street food options.
The long-standing event organised by the Hedgehogs and Farnham Lions is free to enter but donations in the iconic red buckets will be gratefully received with surplus funds going to good causes.
“Profit is not the aim of the Lions and Hedgehogs who give up their time so generously to keep this 100-year-old event alive and buzzing,” said John Beer, chair of the carnival committee.
“We aim to ‘Keep Farnham Active’ so please come and enjoy this great day out.”
