THE Greatham yew, in the churchyard of the old St John the Baptist Church, is thought to pre-date the church by about 300 years.
Thought to be about 1,040 years old, this ancient evergreen tree would have been a sapling in Dark Ages Britain, when Anglo-Saxon peoples inhabited the land.
