Hale Carnival is an event that everyone in north Farnham looks forward to – but 2024 may be the last chance to enjoy it.
The current committee volunteers want to move on to new ventures after the July 6 event, with some members having done between 10 to 20 years service.
It would not be the first time the carnival ended prematurely as there was a gap between 1995 and 2002 when there were no available volunteers to run it.
Committee chair Sara Lee said: “I’m sad to say that 2024 may well be the last we see of Hale Carnival.
“We are a small group of 12 volunteers, all of us work full-time, and some of us would like to move on.
“We need people to join or we simply can’t go on.
“It would be such a shame to see the carnival end, but we’re all extremely proud of the event we’ve built over the last 20 years.”
Sara said more than £80,000 has been raised for good causes in the Hale community in this time.
This year’s carnival will run on Saturday, July 6 from 2pm to 10pm. It will offer the usual afternoon entertainment on Hale Village Green followed by the carnival procession with music, food and drink in the evening before a firework finale at 10pm.
The dog show, John Coneley's fun fair, children's tent and food, wine, gin and Pimms tents have all been confirmed.
Music and entertainment are yet to be announced.
All the festivities are provided for free by the committee who are not paid for their time and hard work.
This year’s carnival is one not to be missed!
