The butterfly hot-spots according to recent sightings from Surrey Butterflies and the Surrey and SW London Branch of Butterfly Conversation.
Box Hill, Tadworth
A combination of woodland and chalk downland, Box Hill has attracted more than 38 butterflies in the past and the Marbled white and Purple emperor are just two of the favourites listed by the National Trust. Spotters have seen the Small heath fluttering around and the Orange-tip in April.
Denbies Hillside, Dorking
Denbies is a chalk-grassland that provides food-plants for butterflies. The Adonis blue and Chalkhill blue are common but the rare Silver-spotted skipper has been known to pay a visit and the Small copper and Brown argus have been seen there.
Guildford
The town has many nature sites including Unstead Wetland Nature Reserve, Hackhurst and White Downs and more. The Small copper, Wavy-barred Sable (Pyrausta nigrata) and Five-spot Burnet moth have been reported around these areas.
