The sky is the limit for the newest residents of a Farnham beauty spot after taking their first steps and flight.

There’s been delight for twitchers at Tice’s Meadow as they’ve been watching two young Barn Owls grow and mature over the last three months.

The Herald reported on the first laid egg on April 24 but there’s been a cracking development since then with the two Owlets now ruling the roost.

The youngest is making good progress as Owlet 2 has become fully independent and has flown the coup as it spends its nights away from the box.

But Owlet 1 has been a bit more tentative and still comes back to roost in the box following its nocturnal adventures.

There were originally three Barn Owlets but the third was taken to a rescue centre after becoming sick with a serious disease which ultimately claimed its life.

Both Owlets have now spread their wings and went for their first flights at the end of May.

Owlet 1 was 61 days old when it took to the skies while Owlet 2 was two days younger, and was seen fledging towards the camera just after 2am.

Statistics and data have been kept on the Owls and this year the parents have been catching more food to feed their young. Footage shows the parents have developed a keen taste for voles.
