Tickets for this year’s 46th Farnham Beerex, returning from April 18 to 20 at the Farnham Maltings, are now on sale at www.farnhambeerex.org.uk – with one session already sold out!
But while tickets have been snapped up for the popular Saturday lunchtime slot, there are still a limited number available for Friday evening and Saturday night – and more for the quieter Thursday evening and Friday lunchtime sessions.
Tickets are priced at £14 each and include a complimentary polyglass and programme.
Friday afternoon this year will be different. For the first time in Beerex ’s long history a limited number of tables and chairs will be positioned in the Main Hall and Courtyard (weather permitting) as well as in the rooms upstairs.
A reduced ticket price of £10 reflects not having a band at what is being called ‘the quiet session’ with all the focus being on the beers and ciders. There will also be an opportunity to meet a number of local brewers.
Beers and ciders
There will be a great choice of more than 60 cask ales, the Craft Bar will feature 16 craft beer taps and the Cider Bar will have a great selection of ciders and perries, together covering a variety of styles and tastes from local producers and those further afield. Low alcohol beers will be available in cans.
The beers will include traditional milds, bitters, stouts and porters, as well as more modern styles like red beers, sours, Saison & Pilsners. There will also be a scattering of wild card specials to keep things interesting.
Old favourites like Hogs Back, Tilford, Thurstons, Church End, Langhams, Flowerpots and Triple fff will be there, alongside offerings from newer small breweries, including Maverick (Kingsley), Frensham Brewing, Gilbert White (Selbourne) and Craftsman (Abingdon).
Entertainment
Thursday evening will kick of with local band Brobed Stils making their Beerex debut.
Friday evening will feature Beerex favourites DisCover playing the favourites guaranteed get may dancing along.
Saturday lunchtime will see the return of the Farnham Big Band following on from their great success last year and on Saturday evening Something 4 The Weekend will take to the stage.
Food
This year’s Maltings food offer is going to be different. Each session will feature a selection of the following street food vendors which will include Farnham favourites Ladda Thai, Taste the Difference, Sprinkle of Saffron and Heaven’s Kitchen. Also, Simon’s Pies, Crumpy’s Smoke Shack and others to be confirmed.
A milestone passed
When the 1977 Beerex committee launched the first Farnham Beer Exhibition it is unlikely that they foresaw the event still being organised in 2024.
Even less likely, that their decision to donate all of the proceeds from Beerex to charity to support good causes would one day surpass one million pounds.
It’s a fantastic achievement and is due to the support of CAMRA, of Farnham Lions, of all the independent committee members, the advertisers, sponsors, supporters but mostly the purchasers of many thousands of Beerex tickets and the drinkers of so much fine beer who have always been ‘drinking for charity’.
Each year Farnham Lions Club sets out to spend every penny of the Beerex funds and have supported thousands of individuals, couples and families in need as well as hundreds of organisations that also provide much needed support.
