The BMX pump track at Anstey Park in Alton opened to cyclists on December 15.

Construction by Velosolutions began at the end of October and the team worked through torrential rain and then freezing cold to ensure it opened in time for the Christmas holidays.

Line painting and landscaping are still to be completed but these will be done when the weather warms up.

The first user was GT Factory international mountain bike racer Wyn Masters, who said: “I was stoked to get the first test ride on the new Alton track. It’s definitely a fun track and a good set-up for lots of fun for all ages.”

Alton town mayor Cllr Ginny Boxall added: “We are very excited to see this project become a reality and give our grateful thanks to the members of the community who advocated for this scheme.

“This new leisure facility for the town will provide a modern recreational space which will not only provide a location to meet with like-minded people to improve physical health and mental wellbeing but also help build confidence and skills on a bicycle.”

Resident Bill Farrington, a community member of the task and finish group which worked on the project, said: “Wicked, great news! I have helped the guys get it finished and couldn’t be happier, so thanks to all involved. I am glad to have been involved in making it happen.”
