In a busy autumn for Alton Camera Club, members welcomed speakers, judges and lecturers, and ventured out on pleasantly rain-free field trips.
Jonathan Genevaux, finalist in the Landscape category of the British Institute of Photography Print Competition, shared stunning images and gave a talk on Photographing Waterscapes, while award-winning photographer and professional ecologist Andrew McCarthy shared images, hints and tips in his Macro Nature Photography talk.
In October members visited the New Forest for a Wild Forest fungi walk, and went to Richmond for the deer rut.
A first for many was attending the Lord Mayor’s Show in the City of London, followed by a visit to Tate Modern and the South Bank.
In the first rounds of the Print and PDI League competitions scores of ten were awarded to Tony Cole, Renee Smith, Lynne Harles and new members Jason Bunce and Steve Smith.
Steve also won the Mobile Phone Award for his striking image HMS Belfast. The first round of the Print Challenge was titled Hampshire. Top spot went to Renee Smith for her image October Reflections, taken at Hartley Mauditt.
Jason Hyde will soon be giving a talk on Astro Photography, while club member and highly regarded photographer Tony Cole will give a talk on How Do We Really Approach Our Photography?
Forthcoming field trips include a day out in Oxford and a trip to London for the Christmas lights and Shoreditch Colour Walk.
The competition season continues with the first rounds of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation regional Print and PDI Leagues, plus the club challenge Modern Life.
Anyone with an interest in photography who would like to join like-minded enthusiasts in sharing, learning and developing their knowledge and passion can attend one of the club’s weekly meetings, which are held every Wednesday at 7.30pm in Holybourne Village Hall.
