A village south of Farnham has become gnome man’s land for the festive period.
Younger residents of Rowledge may have been watching the skies for a sight of Father Christmas and his Sleigh as the big day approached.
But big – or should that be little – things have also happened on the ground, as the village’s population has magically risen in recent days.
More than 60 Gonks have made themselves at home in the village in a mission to spread some festive cheer.
The furry and festively-dressed gnome-like figures can be found dotted around village landmarks like the war memorial, Jubilee Gardens, the village hall and ever-popular Hare and Hounds pub.
The pint-sized visitors are part of the Rowledge Gonk Trail with the hairy holidaymakers being invited back to the village by resident Mandy Main and Farnham artist, Susie Lidstone following a successful run-out last year.
“Our furry friends are back to spread to a little extra happiness at a special time of year,” said trail organiser Mandy, who was determined to put a cost-free smile on people’s faces with the help of Susie.
“The gonks are good-natured and can be enjoyed by all at no expense.”
Mandy added: “As well as being a bit of fun, their stay in Rowledge is intended to give people a reason to get out in the fresh air – with friends, family and other members of the community – and explore our beautiful village.”
Residents have been challenged to find all the Gonks as they will be out and about in Rowledge until January 1.
People who follow the one-mile trail will find the Gonks in a variety of different and funny scenes.
