IT may have been the 75th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday – but minds were on another D-Day last weekend as the popular Dockenfield Day village fete made its anticipated return.
Fair-goers dusted down their surfboards and donned their hula skirts for an afternoon of traditional family-friendly fun, rising to the challenge of this year’s beach theme.
Old favourites such as the coconut shy and the bouncy castle added to exciting new additions like the much-anticipated space hopper sprint and donut challenge.
All sports and events were free to join in and the cost of stalls were kept to a minimum – where else can you try a genuine human fruit machine for as little as 10p a go?
The tug of war and dog show were hotly contested, and covers band Downstairs at Deano entertained throughout.
Other attractions included tea and home-made cakes, a barbecue and locally-brewed beer.
