A scroll celebrating 200 years of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has reached its final destination more than six months after passing through Farnham.

The scroll was displayed in the town council chambers 18 days after beginning its nationwide tour at Westminster Abbey on Monday, March 4.

The chairs of the Farnham, Haslemere and Godalming RNLI branches all signed the document, respectively adding signatures 83, 84 and 85.

Nigel Cuthbert, chairman of the Farnham RNLI fundraising branch, had the local honour of adding his name to the commemorative piece.

The scroll arrived at its final location and permanent home of Douglas on the Isle of Man 217 days after stopping in Farnham.

The Manx capital - the scroll will be housed in Douglas City Hall - was where the organisation RNLI began in 1824 following an appeal by Sir William Hillary after seeing many shipwrecks on the island.
