A little piece of Surrey is in South Africa thanks to a first class recycling scheme by a Farnham school.

Weydon Secondary School has raised more than £6,000 over the last year by selling second-hand uniforms from its own volunteer-run shop.

The shop has prevented landfill and given families the chance to buy uniforms at affordable prices.

The recycling initiative is part of an “above and beyond” ethos with principal Jackie Sharman calling it a “wonderful example of a successful project.”

Any obsolete or slightly damaged uniforms have been shipped to schools in South Africa and Tanzania while badly damaged items are “de-badged” and donated to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care for them to sell on as rags.
