YEAR 11 footballers from Weydon School have had a fantastic season.
In their final season at school they achieved the double becoming Surrey county champions and Aldershot and District Cup champions.
Their journey in the Aldershot and District Cup was nail-biting. Having beaten Salesian College Farnborough 2-1, and then All Hallows 4-3, a 3-0 victory over Yateley School set them up for a final against Robert Mays at Aldershot FC. Weydon were victorious 2-1, thanks to goals from Will Ryman and captain Archie Rawnsley.
Their county cup exploits were even more remarkable. Weydon had to beat some big Surrey schools to get to the final, where they came up against a strong Glyn side, who were county champions for the previous two seasons.
With the scores level 1-1 after normal time, a 5-4 victory on penalties gave the Farnham side victory.
A county cup first for a Weydon side, but a remarkable achievement for the squad to achieve the double.
Mr Wish, assistant principal and manager of the side, said: “This group of gentlemen have been superb all season, and have been a credit to themselves and the school. Their conduct, commitment and desire to succeed were evident throughout the season. It has been a pleasure to manage them for the last five years.”
