Just a week into the new term, Weydon Academy in south Farnham took delivery of 2,000 copies of its 32-page, colour school newspaper, Weydon World.

The third edition of Weldon World contains news, features and sport from the previous school year. It is edited by Karl Brown, the school’s director of sport, and produced by former Fleet Street journalist Steve Usher.

He said: “Karl oversees it and writes a lot of the articles, but the students write some including the ‘Diary from South Africa’.

“We are hoping to get them to write more for the next edition. The photos are taken by Karl, teachers and some of the students.”

Weydon World was highly-commended at the Shine School Media Awards, 2023 in the Best Printed Publication section and the team has its sights set on the first prize this year.
