A boozed-up couple who performed a sex act in broad daylight in a Farnham bus shelter were “startled and confused” when police arrived, a court has heard.

A 40-year-old woman will be sentenced later this year after admitting to an act of outraging public decency at the now-closed shelter on South Street on August 12.

Guildford Magistrates heard on Tuesday that she and a 61-year-old got into a tryst after a bout of drinking and became disconnected from their surroundings.

The pair committed the act on a weekday afternoon during the school summer holidays when shoppers and children were close by, while a mobile phone recording of the incident was circulated on social media.

Alphonsus Doran, in mitigation, said the defendant had apologised to both the police and court with alcohol and mental health issues being cited for her behaviour.

He also called for a financial penalty, as her co-defendant was fined earlier this year for the same offence with the woman being released on unconditional bail.
