Farnham’s MP has urged the government to put their foot down and build a bypass around a congested village.
The long-running saga of the Wrecclesham bypass has taken another turn as Greg Stafford quizzed transport minister Lilian Greenwood in Parliament last week.
The Conservative believes the bypass is now “essential” as traffic levels are becoming intolerable.
He has called traffic levels along the Wrecclesham section of the A325 “impossible at rush hour times” and remains concerned about the potential of lorries hitting the railway bridge.
Mr Stafford asked: “Will she work with local authorities to provide a Wrecclesham bypass, which is so sought by my constituents?”
Recent roadworks and emergency closures either side of the bridge have worsened traffic with many motorists using River Lane as a rat run.
The minister’s reply was inconclusive but Surrey County Council says it recognises “traffic challenges” in the village and is trying to identify “potential solutions”.
