IT was Lego galore at Farnham Rugby Club, as Farnham ASSIST’s first ever Lego event was hailed a huge success.
In all, the event attracted just under 1,000 people of all ages (but mainly under 10) who enjoyed viewing the models and building their own.
According to organisers, Farnham Rugby Club were great hosts, especially the catering manager Pete, who was catering not only for the Lego event but the American football teams using the rugby pitch whilst Farnham rugby supporters were enjoying success in Twickenham with their winning match.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful creations of many Brickish members, who built all sorts of Lego models, from train stations with interchangeable trains, fighter jets, a tongue in cheek example of Donald Trump’s Great Dividing Wall and TV sets of The Simpsons to name but a few,”said Farnham ASSIST’s, Susie Blackwood.
“These members gave up their time to help Farnham ASSIST charity raise funds to continue supporting older people, and for that we are truly grateful.
“Rhys Knight of Mister Brick helped to co-ordinate the Master Lego Builders and was a great support in organising the event.”
Organisers would like to thank everyone who donated Lego for the event for the children to play with, much of this will now be donated to the Samaritans Purse Shoe Box Appeal.
An appeal which is supported by ladies from Farnham ASSIST’s, Knit ‘n’ Natter group held on Mondays at St Andrew’s parish rooms.
The children who took part in the Lego build competition arrived with very inventive creations and once the votes had been counted the winning entries were as follows: Bailey (age five to seven), Micah (age eight to 10), Tom (age 11 to 13) and Jackson, in the 14 plus category.
Susie added: “Kidd Rapinet, our kind sponsors for the day gave the prizes (donated by Sainsbury) to the children and helped to bring the event to a close at 4pm.
“In all the day was a great success which we hope to repeat next year. Do call us on 01252 717710 if you have lost a teddy, we have one missing it’s owner.”
The group’s next fundraising event is a Mad Hatters’ Tea Party, which takes place in the Farnham Museum gardens on Monday, May 29, between 2pm to 4pm.
All are welcome (costumes optional) to this fete for refreshments and fun. It’s free and there will also be a treasure trail running around the town with a prize for successfully completing the course, which costs £5 to enter.
To take part in the trail email [email protected], or phone 01252 717710.
