Aldershot & Farnham Ladies drew 0-0 at Eastbourne Ladies after throwing everything at their hosts without managing to find the back of the net.
The two-hour drive to Eastbourne was a drag and one that A&F found hard to shake off, as was their sticky and slow pitch which took the pace out of the game.
A&F played at their usual speed but sometimes the ball did not come with them. Eastbourne capitalised on this and put A&F under pressure.
Speedy runs by Sophie Edwards and Tammy Cherry went unrewarded and a lot of the game took place back and forth across the middle of the pitch, with both teams finding it hard to retain possession for long.
The first half had a few highlights, with some strong tackles from Sydney Field and Cherry breaking down the play. There were great runs from Sophie Edwards and Sophia Fielding, solid work from the defence and a couple of crucial saves from Lucy Cochrane.
At half-time Cherry switched to right midfield to force the attack and Hannah Wrench moved to centre midfield, putting in a solid performance holding the middle. Fiona Stewart and Sacha Mullins used their silky skills on the left and Emily Desmond posted up everywhere, but A&F could not break through.
Towards the end Louise Laws joined Cherry high on the right and Phoebe Bryant broke through to attack Eastbourne. A clattering tackle on Bryant saw Eastbourne break away, and with both A&F full backs committed in the home side’s 25 it was left to Tasmin Urquhart to save the day with awesome tracking back.
A&F chose Sydney Field as their player of the match for great tackles and work rate.
