Alton Runners achieved some impressive results at the Stubbington 10km race on Sunday.
The race was the sixth fixture in the 2024-25 Hampshire Road Race League season.
The Stubbington 10km race once again demonstrated why it’s such a popular event on the running calendar.
As part of the Hampshire Road Race League, the race attracts top club runners from across the county as well as locals.
With 1,812 runners participating, this event is notoriously difficult to enter because of its high demand – and it’s easy to see why.
The Stubbington 10km race is renowned for its picturesque landscape, fast course, and being one of the biggest races of its kind that the south coast has to offer.
Alton Runners had 29 members sporting the club’s yellow vests, with many proudly debuting the new design for this year.
The race was blessed with perfect conditions – cool, dry weather with no wind – ideal for fast times and strong performances.
There were some impressive individual achievements on the day.
Dylan Poulton was the first Alton male across the line, finishing 32nd overall.
Poulton not only secured a personal best but also took first junior male – a superb achievement in such a competitive field.
Meanwhile, women's captain Rachel Walsh delivered an excellent performance, finishing as the ninth female overall.
Walsh secured a personal best and set a new club record in the process, showcasing her hard work and dedication.
Andrew Tarrant broke the club’s over-60s 10km record – a record that had stood for more than 20 years.
This achievement is a testament to Tarrant’s experience and determination.
Tarrant's daughter, Abbie Hook, returned to running after having her daughter.
The day was a triumph for the club, with many personal bests achieved across the board.
Donna Mansfield completed her first 10km race – a nice milestone and an example of the supportive atmosphere at Alton Runners.
Alton Runner James Kidwell said: “The conditions were perfect – it was cool and still and the course was flat.
“It was nice to see so many happy, smiley people in yellow tops at the finish line.
“Well done team Alton.”
The next race in the calendar for Alton Runners is the fourth round of the Southern Cross Country League at Chawton House on Sunday, January 19.
Chawton House, which once belonged to Jane Austen's brother, Edward, provides a beautiful and historic setting for the five-mile course.
The route follows a variety of undulating tracks, paths and trails around the Chawton House estate.
The event, hosted by Alton Runners, is open to Southern Cross Country League club runners.
The Hampshire Road Race League continues next month with the Ryde ten-mile race on the Isle of Wight on Sunday, February 2, with 16 members signed up to represent Alton Runners.
