Badshot Lea made it four points from two games with a 1-1 draw away to Hayes & Yeading United in the Isthmian League South Central Division on December 3.
Adrian Clifton put the seventh-placed hosts in front with a 53rd-minute penalty but Jaheim Kamara equalised in the 66th minute before a crowd of 179 at the Skyex Community Stadium.
Baggies manager Gavin Smith said: “It was a good game. It’s a great facility and a great place to play football. Me and the lads enjoyed it.
“We went there thinking if we got anything it would be a bonus and we came away disappointed we hadn’t won the game.”
Smith felt his side grew stronger as the game went on.
He said: “In the first half we were in it but they showed some quality in the final third.”
Badshot Lea’s Joe Lewis robbed the Hayes & Yeading centre-back, went round goalkeeper Juliusz Pazio who had run out to meet him, but missed an open goal.
He appeared to panic and shot wide from 25 yards while off balance when he seemed to have time and space to run on and roll the ball into the net.
However the Baggies did not lose heart and carried on where they left off after the break.
Smith said: “In the second half we started really well and created a couple of good chances.”
Then came the setback of the penalty. Badshot Lea gave the ball away and there was a rash challenge in the box from Taro Chitepo, trying to make up for the bad pass, and Clifton scored from the spot for Hayes & Yeading.
Again Badshot Lea were undeterred and they began to benefit from fielding a youthful team against an opposing side packed with experienced but older players.
Smith said: “Their legs went a bit and we got a good goal from a good bit of play.”
Badshot Lea broke forward, made a bad pass and had Hayes & Yeading breaking on them, then won the ball back and worked it to Kai Allsopp.
He played it to Kamara, who faced his man on the edge of the box, sidestepped to the left and smashed the ball across Pazio and into the net.
After that Badshot Lea started to dominate the match.
Smith said: “We hit the bar and had a couple of shots go just over the top. As soon as we equalised we were the only team who were going to win the game, so we were disappointed to come away with only one point.
“But we displayed determination and there were positive signs of coming back and going on to try to win it, so that was really encouraging.”
In their next five games Badshot Lea host Harrow Borough on December 14 (3pm) and Rayners Lane on December 17 (7.45pm), travel to Leatherhead on December 21 (3pm), host Ascot United on Boxing Day (1pm) and go to Farnham Town for the Coxbridge Roundabout local derby on December 28 (3pm).
