ALTON College cricket team snatched the long-standing Hampshire Colleges Altham Trophy from Farnborough’s grasp with a dramatic one-wicket win in a low-scoring final at Farnborough College (late switch of venue as the Ageas Bowl was under water).
Surrey prospect Chris Jones took 5-21 as Farnborough were dismissed for 105 (Nic Hucker 21). But then Rowledge left-armer Jake Wish (3-27) and Hook & Newnham Basics spinner Rhodes Franklin (3-17) made Alton battle all the way for the trophy.
Liphook & Ripsley’s George Neave (24) top-scored for Alton and they were indebted to tailender Jake Tapp who held his nerve at the end and scored the winning runs.
