Eggar’s School Year 8 pupil Sebastian Poon skated his way to victory at the 2025 Robin Hood Trophy in Nottingham.
Competing in the National Basic Novice Boys’ category, Sebastian took first place, achieving a personal best score of 30.47 with a technically-challenging programme set to The New Earth by Audiomachine.
Without a home rink following the closure of Basingstoke Ice Rink, Sebastian trains at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham on weekends under the guidance of four-time British champion Phil Harris.
Balancing his studies, training and long travel hours has required planning and dedication.
Sebastian credits the support of his school, family and coach for helping him manage his schedule and keep his dream of competing for Team GB alive.
“It hasn’t been easy juggling school, training and the travel involved, but my teachers have been so understanding and supportive,” he said.
“It means so much to know they’re behind me as I work towards my goals.”
